Skin biopsy is the procedure of removing a portion of your skin and testing it under a microscope after processing it . it is a diagnostic procedure done sometimes to confirm the diagnosis or to differentiate between clinically similar skin diseases.
Types of Skin Biopsy
Shave Biopsy:
In a shave biopsy, only the top layer of the skin will be removed.
Punch Biopsy:
A small core of the skin with some deep layers will be removed using a special circular tool.
Excision Biopsy:
A knife (scalpel) is used to remove an entire lump of abnormal skin and some portion of the normal skin.
Incision Biopsy:
A scalpel is used to remove a part of a big skin lesion
The sample obtained from biopsy is examined by dermatopathologist to give a final report.
